Celebs who will not be Getting Plastic Surgery
Sometimes it’s tempting to feel sorry for celebrities as they get older. If they age naturally and forgo plastic surgery, they’re laughed at as “old hags,” but if they get the help of a surgeon they’re accused of being overly vain. They can’t win. There are a few handfuls of celebrities who don’t believe in having plastic surgery to block the effects of aging, however.
The stunning Halle Berry says she is dismayed by the way people “mutilate their faces in search of [perfection]… It’s really insane, and I feel sad about what society is doing to women.”
Another voice against the “slippery slope” of chasing perfection via surgery is Angelica Huston, who says, “It’s a matter of whether you want to go to war with that and have surgery. Ultimately it’s a slippery slope.”
Sharon Stone says, “I haven’t had plastic surgery and I wouldn’t have it in the future. It’s just not my thing. I’m not afraid of ageing. I stopped being afraid of life a long time ago.
Jamie Lee Curtis, who braved a magazine cover unenhanced by makeup and strategic clothing choices thinks it is psychologically unhealthy to do everything possible to try to halt the effects of time, saying “No one talks about what happens to you inside when you do all these procedures.”
Oscar winner Kate Winslet decries a Hollywood where “people have done so much to themselves, the men as much as the women, that they don’t even look like themselves anymore.”
The lovely Nicole Kidman puts it more bluntly: “I would love to have boobs and a butt like Jennifer Lopez but I’m not having cosmetic surgery so there it is.”
Of course there is always the question of what exactly counts as plastic surgery. Do noninvasive treatments like Botox count? What about an in-office microdermabrasion? Or a home microdermabrasion? Some of the actresses mentioned above have been reported to have such minimally invasive procedures. The dividing line appears to be whether anesthetic and a scalpel are involved.
Face it: nobody wants to look old before their time. Some people draw the line at non-invasive techniques, while others rely on clean living, good skincare and diet, and hope for the best. Jamie Lee Curtis has had some cosmetic surgery but has decided to step off the ever quickening treadmill of trying to hold back time. We all have to make peace with the aging process, and it’s every bit as admirable for someone to do so without the aid of plastic surgery as it is to get surgical help.
